Brief:
The Operators wanted to undertake an exceptional piece of organic modeling, texturing and shaders to show CGI excellence. This was done with creating a full in house production. Evolving the idea of evolution through a tongue in cheek concept of a gorilla peeling its own hand to reveal a banana creatively lead by The Operators.

Our Role:
Undertaking the full production to create an innovative still image from concepting the idea, R&D, production and all post production.
|
Production / Solution:
From the offset we researched gorilla hand posture, shape and formulated the best direction for creating the texture. Photographing our own material allowed us to build up texture mapping which was altered to the gorilla hand that were modelled within Maya. Creating costumed texture brushes the hands were then taken into Z-Brush and sculpted creating the form and organic shape / detail within the hand. Combining cgi with photography to create a gorilla hand that is believable within shape, posse, texture, lighting and grad work.
Using a unique, custom workflow for the production and development of bespoke photorealistic CGI hair helped finalise the hands realistic qualities. The background and banana were then photographed at replicating angles to the hands perspective. These were then bedded into the shot and finalised together with colour grading.

Result:
The image has been a stimulating and innovative piece of R&D that pushes the organic creation of CGI, integrated into a photographic backplate.
